Viewing Grant Proposal: Ypsilanti Performance Space_Solar EV Charging Stations
We plan to install four Beam EV ARC solar-powered charging systems in the City of Ypsilanti to provide
more solar-powered EV charging stations for public use. The YPSI, centrally located in the City of
Ypsilanti, has one of the largest rooftop solar installations in the city. Since 2018, it has powered the
only public EV chargers in the city with two Level-2 chargers. By installing these new charging stations,
we can provide eight additional Level-2 charging stations in the parking lot of The YPSI for public use.

I enthusiastically support this proposal. As Mayor of Ypsilanti, I can assure you that Ypsi is environmentally conscious and ambitious about further investment. The Ypsilanti Performance Space has helped to lead the community in this effort. Additional charging stations are crucial for promoting sustainable transportation options in our community. I commend the Performance Space for their existing efforts and hope you help them to continue with this expansion.

This would be a great asset to the downtown and the community. This sort of project helps at-risk older urban communities.

As a longtime resident of Ypsilanti, I fully support the proposal to install EV charging stations at the YPSI for the public. Ypsilanti has been on the forefront of green energy with its many solar installations and this endeavor continues the commitment of sustainability in the community.

Ypsilanti has a thriving downtown area and this area is considered the main population supporting Ann Arbor, which brings in money from all over the world. Very soon there will be a GREAT need for EV stations, if not already. Ypsilanti is very walkable, and these stations would support the many restaurants and shops. Please support our community, so we can support others. thank you.

We need more EV charging stations in our city and to support the Ypsilanti Performance Space, which we call The YPSI, which is renovating and saving a historic church in downtown Ypsilanti is a bonus, for too long projects like this have skipped over older cities like Ypsilanti. As someone who has lived in Ypsilanti for over 40 years, I have seen the disinvestment in our older cities. I am told The YPSI has the only public EV charging station in the entire city and it has been operating for over 4 years. It is in use by people who work at Eastern Michigan University, work downtown, or live nearby and it is busy nearly 24 hours a day which is amazing. It shows that people who live in apartments are buying EVs and they need places to charge. I also like that people can charge their phones, laptops, and other battery devices during an outage. Last summer we lost DTE power in Ypsilanti for over three days and that was very hard for our are most vulnerable residents who have come to depend on cell phones to communicate with family or call for help. These charging stations are solar-powered with batteries so vehicles can charge at night as well. The solar and batteries will allow first responders to power vehicles, ambulances, and emergency response command centers after or a storm or another power outage when needed. It's clear we need more EV stations and we need them not out in a shopping center, we need them where people live and work. With 60% of Ypsilanti residents living in apartments, and most of the housing over 100 years old, many of these old homes can't support upgraded wiring for EV charging. This provides a way for people to charge their cars when they can't install chargers in their apartments I hope you will support The YPSI and our city in awarding this needed grant and invest in our City.
